App Gallery

We’ll be filling this gallery with as many of the apps and hacks that we can find built on the Atlas API. If you’d like us to add something to this gallery, either tell us all on our Google Group or ping us @atlasapi.


watchsomething.tv

watchsomething.tv is currently operated as a pilot. It produces smart feeds of content you might like, based on subscriptions and moods.

This long-form Video-on-Demand service was developed in early 2010 by MetaBroadast using the Atlas Java client.


Realtime Video Chat

@thesmith’s chat hack pushes recently mentioned content from Atlas out as XMPP messages. Build on Google App Engine, the code can be found at http://github.com/thesmith/realtime and you can use it by registering your interest here and by adding realtime-video@appspot.com as a Google Chat contact.


JQuery Examples

@ayrez kindly donated the following little hacks for @thesmith’s Using the Atlas API with JQuery blog post. These will take lists of interesting content and display them in an appealing manner:

Atlas Is

  • The open-source, open-API index that gathers and stores video & audio information from 10+ sources, so that you can build cool apps swiftly
  • The way to learn all about a content link, or to find the content link itself

Atlas Does

  • Runs sophisticated title searches
  • Helps you get to content you can actually watch, like "I want to watch Glee and I am in the US"
  • Automatically produces all content lists needed for an online video service, from episodes in a brand to a-to-z lists and the current highlights
  • Stores all you expect: title, description, image, thumbnail, genres, tags and many ways to play it
  • Keeps an eye on Twitter, indexing all content mentions and what's currently hot
  • Next to web, finds mobile and TV friendly content
  • Lets you ask for content by time, like "What's on the BBC right now"
  • Outputs information in many different formats

Atlas Will

  • Figure equivalent content from different sources
  • Search across title, description, tags and genres
  • Add more and more sources, and improve and augment the data from the current ones
